It's All About PR - IPRS 35th Anniversary Celebrations

Singapore, 17 Oct 2005 –The Institute of Public Relations of Singapore (IPRS) turns 35 this year and so does the public relations profession in Singapore. The Institute and the profession have achieved much over the years. Today, PR is recognised as an important function in almost every organisation.

In 1970, with a distinct vision to advance, strengthen and unify the public relations profession, a group of young and dedicated PR practitioners made a tremendous effort to conceive IPRS. Beginning with just 30 members, IPRS was officially registered as a non-profit organisation on 29 December 1970 on the premise of bringing Singapore’s public relations industry to greater professional height.

Today, the industry has evolved into a progressive and dynamic one and the Institute has grown to a current membership base of more than 500 active members who are professionals from diverse business backgrounds, thus contributing to its strength and dynamism.

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the IPRS will host a half day seminar, “It’s All About PR” on Friday, 21 October 2005, (9:00am – 1:00pm) at M Hotel Singapore.

The anniversary theme, “It’s All About PR” pays homage to the public relations industry, one which has evolved itself to stand today as it is – a profession which is committed to excellence.

Commenting on the theme of the celebrations, IPRS’ President, Ms K Bhavani said: “In IPRS’ 35 years history, we have seen dramatic changes - from  a written press release to a video news release, from a traditional press conference to a teleconference to international markets, from traditional media to new media, from communication in newspapers and television  to communicating through blogs and the list goes on.  With the advent of the new media and the higher expectations of an educated and discerning audience, it is the most challenging time for the PR profession.”

The half day seminar on Friday will see PR luminaries and industry experts presenting their views and experiences on public relations-related topics.

Speakers include Margaret Cunico, Vice President of Weber Shandwick who will discuss the evolution of PR in its relatively short history in Singapore as well as John Bailey, Managing Director of ICON Communications International who will share the lessons that can be learnt from managing crisis communications in disasters where everything happens with the blink of an eye.

“It’s All About PR” seminar is expecting business professionals from diverse industries   who focus on Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Brand Management, & Marketing, Education and Journalism.
