IPRS Membership Information

Categories of Membership

 

Honorary Member

The Council shall be empowered to confer Honorary Membership upon any individual in recognition of outstanding services in public relations and who by reasons of position, eminence or experience, has also rendered outstanding services over a long period in promoting public relations. Nominations for Honorary membership shall be by at least two members, one of whom must be a Council Member. Such nominations shall have the unanimous approval of the Council.

An Honorary Member shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges as members, except to vote in any proceedings of the Institute and the right to hold office in the Council.

 

Fellow Member

The Council shall be empowered to confer Fellow Membership upon Full Members who have achieved eminence in the profession in recognition of distinguished public relations work. Nominations shall be made by at least two Council Members and be approved by at least a two-third majority of the Council by secret ballot.

A Fellow Member shall be entitled to use the letter FIPRS and to exercise voting rights in the affairs of the Institute.

 

Accredited Member

Requirements for election to Accredited Member:

Full Members who have a minimum of eight years full-time experience in the professional practise of public relations, or a minimum of five years experience and a Diploma/Degree in Communication Studies, Public Relations or the equivalent, may apply to be formally certified as an accredited public relations practitioner.

An Accredited Member shall have demonstrated broad knowledge, experience and professional judgement in the field through an accreditation process and shall hold the accreditation for a period of two years. During the two years, the Member has to attain a requisite number of Continuing Professional Education points in order to qualify for reaccreditation.

An Accredited Member shall be entitled to use the AMIPRS designation and has voting rights in the affairs of the Institute.

Full Member

Requirements for election to Full Member:

Either

  • a)  normal resident or practicing in Singapore
  • b)  24 years of age or more
  • c)  at least six years’ comprehensive experience in public relations
  • d)  no criminal records

Or

  • a)  24 years of age or more
  • b)  three years’ comprehensive experience in public relations
  • c)  have passed a PR examination, recognised by the Institute
  • d)  no criminal records

Full Members are entitled to a membership card, to exercise full voting rights in the affairs of the Institute and are entitled to use the letters ‘MIPRS’.

 

Corporate Member

Requirements for election to Corporate Member:

  • a)  Open to PR agencies/consultancies or organisations associated with the practice of public relations in Singapore
  • b)  Each Corporate Member shall be represented by one representative who shall himself/herself meet the qualifications for Full Membership of IPRS

Corporate Member is entitled to send up to a maximum of five representatives to be present at IPRS functions at members’ rates. Corporate Member is entitled to use the letters ‘CMIPRS’ for the duration of his/her membership.

 

Associate Member

Requirements for election to Associate Member:

  • a)  normal resident or practicing in Singapore
  • b)  21 years of age or more
  • c)  have been professionally engaged in public relations for a minimum period of three years
  • d)  no criminal records

Associates are entitled to use the description ‘Associate of the Institute of Public Relations’ (but NOT to use the letters AIPRS) and to exercise full voting rights in the affairs of the Institute, but not eligible for office of either the President or Vice-President of the Council.

 

Affiliate Member

Requirements for election to Affiliate:

Affiliates are not entitled to use any letters or description after his name and cannot exercise any voting rights in the affairs of the Institute.

 

Membership Fees

For Corporate Membership, the fees remain the same, and membership duration is one year from the month of application (due to companies' accounting practice) Eg: April 2003 to April 2004. The membership fee is fixed at $1,000 ($300 - entrance fee & $700 - annual subscription).

The membership fee scheme will be based on the four quarters of a year. Depending on the "quarter" applicants join, they will pay the respective membership fees:

The entrance fees for the various membership categories remain fixed as follows, regardless of the month of application.

Affiliate : $100
Associate : $100
Full : $150
Corporate : $300

Quarter 1 : April - June
Quarter 2 : July - September
Quarter 3 : October - December
Quarter 4 : January - March
